In New Jersey, Certified Home Health Aides provide personal service under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). The RN designs the plan of care and supervises the “personal or assistive services” provided by the CHHA.
It is important to understand that there is a distinction between what is called “companion care” and a CHHA. In general, the former is not authorized to deliver any form of medical care, including things like assisting with bathing and toileting. A CHHA, on the other hand, undergoes specific training approved by the Board of Nursing, and can provide certain limited “medical” functions under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse. Also, a CHHA also must meet certain criteria to qualify and to maintain their certification.
Generations will only provide a CHHA, not a companion, a sitter or other non-certified person. It is only by ensuring a person is trained to provide home healthcare, continues to receive continuing education, and has gone through background, criminal and medical checks that we can deliver the quality of service we’ve promised and your loved ones deserve.
Understanding exactly what the CHHA is, what she/he will do and how they’re selected is important to your appreciation of the benefits of using a Generations CHHA. Please read more at our Frequently Asked Questions section.
